The Purist CL is based on the standard Purist II but features a caged construction and is 15% lighter than the standard model. As with all the Young's range, it is made to the highest standard and constructed from the highest quality bar stock aluminium.
The Aerodex reel represents the ultimate in quality, simplicity and affordability.
A reel of practical design and extraordinary value.
Broadly the FREEDEX operates as other reels built on the ‘Nottingham’ principle. To control when casting use the index finger on the line drum face, or the regulator, or both. The handles remain stationary when the cast is made - disengagement and engagement being entirely automatic. This innovation eliminates revolving handles when the cast is made, adding to the length of the cast and reducing effort and tendency to over-run.
The release lever at the front enables the winding unit to be removed complete - no small parts to lose; the line drum can then be removed from the frame for cleaning and oiling. Both line drum and winding unit can be replaced equally simply.
All details have been carefully studied by Salmon Angling experts who consider the FREEDEX dimensionally perfect and a first class production.

LUBRICATING, CLEANING & CARE OF YOUR FREEDEX
All reels come with large arbor spools for quicker line retrieval, and have ventilated drums to reduce weight and help dry line.
Both drag systems are operated via a centrally mounted knob on the main body of the reel, and are suitable for left or right hand use.
Other features include:
Level Wind, Casting and General Spinning Reel
A distinctive example of British light engineering; strongly built with some eighty precision-machined components comprising a unit that, with normal care and attention, will give many years of trouble-free service.
Exposed parts are treated to withstand corrosion, but your Gildex should have reasonable attention, as a routine, after use.
1959 Retail Price*: £9 9s.
The GILDEX No.2
Similar to the GILDEX but two ounces lighter and with covered viewing-apertures for simplified oiling. Line Capacity as Gildex.
1959 Retail Price*: £8 12s 6d
The GILDEX Junior
Similar to the GILDEX No. 2 but without the level-wind mechanism.
1959 Retail Price*: £6 6s.

LUBRICATING & CARE OF YOUR GILDEX
Apart from giving the reel a thorough oiling in the dismantled state, the reel should be well oiled at essential points each time before use.
The reel should not be taken apart unnecessarily; once or twice during the season, for cleaning and oiling.
Dismantling of the level wind mechanism should be avoided unless it becomes absolutely necessary for cleaning or for the replacement of worn parts.
To dismantle the reel for cleaning the following procedure should be carefully observed.
FIRST see that CHECK and TENSION are "OFF", then:-
LEVEL WIND MECHANISM
DOUBLE PIVOTAL BEARINGS
The spindle ends of the line drum are housed in adjustable bearings located in the end covers. Each bearing is fitted with an adjustable set screw, providing fine adjustment for positioning the line drum symmetrically in the frame and for taking up excessive 'float' between the bearing points. These should be set so that the line drum is free without end play or 'float'. On no account must these set screws be tightened up for providing tension on the drum.
With the lever in the "OFF" position the drum is entirely free, and casting can be controlled by "thumbing" the line. The lever should be kept in the "OFF" position when not in use, thus avoiding fatigue and distortion of the spring
NOTE: On all "GILDEX" models the drag regulating lever applies the required range of tension when revolved approximately one half turn anti-clockwise from the "OFF" position (see illustration). More than the half turn releases the tension.
HINGED ROD ANCHOR OR REEL SEAT
This is an entirely new feature providing permanent fixture to the reel without the common aid of screws or brazing. The pillars of the reel passing through the hinged bearing of the plate, ensure security without any possibility of coming adrift. The movements of the swivel ends, which may be turned inwards for convenience of packing and prevention of damage, make the seat very adaptable and applicable to the variety of rod fittings used; the rigidity of the reel when fitted to the rod being unimpaired. The double taper ends are suitable for either trout or salmon rod fittings.
These beautifully crafted bar stock fly reels combine lightness with strength and come in a wide range of sizes, from the 3" brook reel up to the more sophisticated 4¼" disc drag reels.
Backing used is 20lb Cortland Micron Backing unless marked * where 30lb Cortland Micron Backing has been used.
All line and backing capacities are a guide only - size may vary between manufacturers.
DO NOT TRY TO ENGAGE THE HANDLE UNIT FOR CHECKING A RUNNING FISH: SERIOUS DAMAGE COULD RESULT.
MW = Medium Width (drum width 0.875 inches), W = Extra Wide (drum width 1.250 inches). (3½" drum width 0.562 inches).

This range is produced from high specification aluminium pressure die-castings, protected against corrosion by a metallic grey coating, and finished with gold script.
These 3½" trout reels made mainly from glass/ceramic material are built on a caged construction for a traditional appearance.
The 'Seldex II' reels are based on the original Seldex reels manufactured by Young's in the 1950's/1960's. These are similar to the Trudex II reels but are of a sturdier build, and do not have the micro-adjustable drag.
Following the success of the Microdex reels, we extended this range to cover 4 miniature reels, all of which were approximately 1¼" in diameter
The MILLENNIAL COLLECTION
A limited edition box set of the four miniature reels, each set individually serial numbered.

Dismantling for Oiling
Do not dismantle unnecessarily
Remove cover screws, retaining screw, and distance washer; lift cover off. Unwind tension unit until it will slide from the shaft; withdraw the line drum.
Note: the No. 3FP line drum is withdrawn without disturbing the tension unit: simply revolve the serrated front face about one-sixth of a turn anti-clockwise, and lift.
PICK-UP should be OPEN, and the REVERSE WIND STOP in the OFF position, for dismantling.

Place Anti-Reverse Ratchet Lever on 'OFF' position, remove cover screws, retaining screw and distance washer; lift off cover plate. Open Automatic Pick-up in casting position, unwind tension unit until it will slide from the shaft; withdraw the line drum. Oil frequently at points enumerated and re-assemble in the reverse order.
Use only the finest quality thin Spindle Oil.
DO NOT USE HEAVY GREASE ON ANY PART OF THE REEL as this will impair the smooth action and efficiency of the reel
AMBIDEX No.4 - COMPLETE QUICK TAKE APART INSTRUCTIONS
