Description

The RIVER SPECIALIST reel, with is distinctly classic and superior aesthetic, takes centrepin angling with a float or feeder to a new level, offering unbeatable performance to anglers.

Traditional Centrepin reels in general were made for the purpose of float fishing here in the UK, and ledgering baits can be difficult with a pin when fast or flooded waters are your chosen venue. With an adjustable tension click check the River specialist reel can be set to deal with fast or flooded water with a flick of a switch. Once the bait has been cast out the angler can engage the click check and increase or decrease the power of the check to stop the line peeling off in heavy water conditions, this also gives the angler a greater resistance when a bite occurs meaning more hooked fish and no over runs.

The J W Young river specialist reel features a solid backplate design, Adjustable click check, 2 ball bearings and micro-adjustable disc drag and ivory style handles. The also reel features a polished rim for smooth line control, a beta light slot in the reel seat for night fishing and has been finished in a matt black colour to complement any rod it is fitted to.

All J W young reels are made and built in the UK and come supplied in a presentation box with a Handmade reel pouch and certificate of authenticity.

First impressions
To look at I wouldn’t expect anything less than perfection and it fills that description perfectly, the classic black finish with the silver rim and bone white handles with the gold brass center spindle makes me realise I’m punching above my weight.
Just simply stunning.
My chosen venue to test this beauty was the River Thames on a stretch known for big Carp, with a steady and powerful currents. To use a Centerpin on such a stretch and ledgering in strong flows like this I needed to have something that could hold fast, the River Specialist is designed to do just that.
Also with the dimensions below It’s perfect for getting hard fighting fish away from snags and ultimately getting the line in quickly.
If you look at the backside of this Centerpin there’s a perfectly sized black tab that you can rotate clockwise or anticlockwise this enables you to tighten or loosen the clutch! Yes a clutch!!
The simple but perfectly balanced mechanism is easy to maintain and use, as an engineer myself I can vouch that this style of mechanics will last a lifetime and more with a little wipe now and again after use.
The great thing about the clutch is when you get a take the distinctive clicking will alert you even from some distance, I really feel it’s a beautiful and pure way to fish for anyone who loves Centrepin fishing or wants to try, very effective indeed, on big small or flooded river alike.
A great tool to have in your arsenal.
